Proteins Food Group

Proteins are made up of amino acids and are complex compounds. Amino acids are used to repair and maintain tissues such as hair, skin, bones, organs, muscles hormones, parts of the immune system and digestive enzymes.

The body can produce amino acids - but these are known as non essential amino acids - the essential ones for the functions above all need to come from foods.

Protein rich foods include: Meat, Cheese, Eggs, and some Beans and Nuts.
