Your target heart rate

For a good workout to burn fat when you exercise it is commonly stated that you need to keep your heart rate at around 60% - 80% of you maximum rate. The formula used to calculate this is:

220 - your age = maximum heart rate

220 - your age * 0.8 = top of the band

220 - your age * 0.6 = bottom of the band

Don't worry about the math - use our calculator below.

The calculator below will work this out for you

Your age

Your maximum HR is :
Your upper training band limit:
Your lower training band limit:
A target heart rate article written by Robert A. Robergs and Roberto Landwehr published in the Journal of Physiologyonline argues that this formula is too general and has no scientific merit.

THR Note

If you have any adverse medical history or may be at risk by undertaking a diet or exercise plan you should talk to your doctor to identify the level of exercise suitable for you, every person is different.
