Goals for Weight Reduction

Reducing weight gradually by losing one to two pounds per week is a safer and healthy approach and would probably result in a sustained weight loss, rather than the yo-yo affect, some experience with rapid weight loss. It is often said: what goes quickly comes back quickly.

Combining a reduction in the number of calories consumed and increasing exercise can achieve a one to two pound per week goal. Generally reducing consumption by, or burning an extra 500 calories per day results in a 1 pound per week weight loss, and 1000 calories per day, a 2 pound per week reduction. There are 3500 calories in a pound of fat.

If you are obese or have serious health problems associated with obesity, you should consult your doctor before embarking on any change in diet for exercise program.

Our weight loss exercise page has some examples of activities that can help you burn 500 calories.
